combine both the knowledge and then solve the thing. industry people will be much more critical towards the technical side of it where as consumers will tell u from the perspective of musical standpoint. create mixes and be open to share your mixes with other people both from the industry and consumers. u don't need expensive equipment.Īlso trust your ears. don't go down the rabbit hole where u are lost with types of EQ or compressors. just make sure that u are actually sitting in front of your DAW and do the work u are supposed to do. so i would say follow whatever tutorial u want to. My advice is regarding something different. Took me maybe 4-6 months to get my list to a mature level, but i'm very happy with the results so far, at least as a beginner. I know Mastering should be done by a second person, but I don't have the option, so at best i can get post-mixing / pre-mastering opinions from friends who are into music and mixing as well. Lastly, I integrated a rough mastering process to my list. If you dedicate some time to it (say, a video a day), soon enough YouTube will be spoon-feeding you this stuff for you to continue growing your Checklist. They also have what they call the Academy, where you pay, but i do not have experience with that. I do believe they have a beginner series. The approach here was unfortunately a bit trial and error, searching for concepts like bass, drums, EQ, etc. Great stuff in there, explained in amazingly simple ways. These specific steps I mostly took from the "Produce like a Pro" channel: With this understanding, I began to go into the specifics of each step, including instrument-specific tips (depending on what you use more often), taking notes, turning them into steps which made sense to me, and growing the list. It gave me the very rough idea of what the mixing process is overall, and what the goal of each step is. Kinda make sure you actively decide against using a certain resource, rather than just forgetting it was there. Mind you, this will not work the exact same with every song, but at least it will give you a list of musts (low cutting or panning, for instance, are almost absolute musts in some form), as well as things you might wanna consider doing (certain effects which are often used, and you don't wanna forget). My approach was to make a sort of checklist or workflow for myself. I've dedicated a lot of this year to tackle mixing in full, and i think i've come up with a pretty decent process.

This means if you add more sprites to the folder, next time you run Texture Packer it will pick up any new sprites in the folder automatically – pretty handy!Īlso, note you don’t necessarily have to have all of your sprites in the same root folder, you could organize them in subfolders if you want (such as sprites/animals, sprites/monsters), and when retrieving them from Cocos2D you can refer to them by their relative path.įinally, note that you can include more than one folder of sprites if you want – this can be handy for larger games where you have the same items on multiple sprite sheets/levels. First, when you add sprites by folder like this, Texture Packer doesn’t add references to the individual sprites, it adds a reference to the folder. On the right hand side, you can see all of the images imported into Texture Atlas and click on each one to see the bounding box – another handy feature!Ī few notes about adding images using the Add Folder option, by the way. Texture Packer will load the images and intelligently lay them out within the sprite sheet as follows: Now, click the Add Folder button in the top toolbar and choose the TextureFun/TextureFun_Art/sprites folder. Agree to the license prompt and when you see the first popup that appears, choose “Test Pro for 1 week” to continue. When you download the DMG, and open the package and agree to the license, drag the TexturePacker icon to the Applications folder and follow the prompts to install Texture Packer on your machine.Īfter you finish installing, click on Texture Packer in your Applications folder to run it. There is a lite version that will work for this tutorial but you will quickly see the advantages of this great tool and want to use the full featured version. The first thing you need to do is download a copy of Texture Packer. Ok, now that you have a project template and some sample art to work with, time to make a sprite sheet using Texture Packer! Creating a Sprite Sheet with Texture Packer Download this sample artwork I gathered together, and after you unzip it, drag the entire directory as a subfolder of your TextureFun project source code folder, as shown in the image below. Next, you’ll need some images to make the sprite sheets. Expand the dropdown and select only the last four files ( main.m, AppDelegate.m, HelloWorldLayer.m, and IntroLayer.m), then click Check and finish the steps of the wizard. Just go to Edit\Refactor\Convert to Objective-C ARC. You are going to use ARC in this project, but by default the template isn’t set up to use ARC. Once you’ve got that installed, start up Xcode and make a new project with the iOS\cocos2d v 2.x\cocos2D iOS template, and name the project TextureFun. So first make sure that you have the latest “unstable” version of Cocos2D v2.x installed. Like I said, even though this is a Texture Packer tutorial, I wanted to show you an example of this working in an actual game, so we’ll be using Cocos2D for that. If you’re curious to learn more about Cocos2D, check out some of our other Cocos2D tutorials. If you are new to Cocos2D, you can still follow along with this Texture Packer tutorial, but there may be some missing gaps in your knowledge about Cocos2D itself as the focus will be on TexturePacker. This Texture Packer tutorial will show you how to use Texture Packer to create and optimize sprite sheets in your games, using a Cocos2D 2.X game as an example.Īlong the way, you’ll learn how to use pixel formats and Texture Packer wisely to make sure your games launch quickly, run smoothly, and use as little memory as possible – while still looking good! When making 2D games, it’s important to combine your sprites into large images called sprite sheets, in order to get the best performance for your games.Īnd Texture Packer is a great tool that makes it extremely easy to generate these sprite sheets – with the click of a button. If players are tired of being attacked and bullied by Pigs when attempting to gather resources near them, considering using Wilba. She's a decent character as she's the second character players will unlock, but she can be a bit hard to control if players don't keep up with her needs. While they won't hurt her, it can cause some serious problems, depending on what players standing by. This lighter can be used to start fires which will help to slowly increase her sanity. Willow starts the game with her teddy bear and a lighter. Has a lighter and is immune to fire damage but will light fires whenever she gets too nervous. While she sounds like a great character, it's more for the later part of the game once she's befriended gauds, created tapestries and covered the floors in marsh turf. Even with a disguise, she can not befriend pigs or try to trade with the Pig King. They will try to attack her on sight, and she despises them as well. Another big disadvantage is her relationship with pigs. One of the main disadvantages for Wurt is the fact that she is a vegetarian, but she's able to eat durian without any side effects. Unlike other non-human characters like Wortox, Wurt isn't attacked by creatures like the Bunnymen. And housing and befriending Gaurds will help players feel more protected as they will help her battle or do chores. Since Toy Story Mania has been around for years, pretty much everyone booked into a Disney hotel starting booking FP+ for Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers a month ago, making them the toughest "gets" in the system now. In case you caught it, yes, Disney has stricken the "Midway" from the name of this popular interactive ride, though the full "Toy Story Midway Mania" name remains on the Disney California Adventure installation.ĭisney has made all three attractions in Toy Story Land "Tier 1" selections for its Fastpass+ ride reservation system, meaning you can book only one of the three (Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, or Toy Story Mania) for your advance selections. In addition to Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers, Walt Disney World's Toy Story Land is the home of the new entrance to Toy Story Mania, which switches from its former entrance in Pixar Place, on the other side of the ride building. (The drifting sensation did make me wonder how many fans who have been complaining about Universal's Fast and Furious ride over the past two months would have felt if Universal had built a scaled-up version of this ride system instead, replacing the saucers with muscle cars and sending us on a drifting "race" around a gritty San Francisco back street.) But if you haven't ridden the Mater ride before, Alien Swirling Saucers offers a fun drifting sensation, as if you were sliding your flying saucer around a figure-eight track in space.Īgain, it's a gentle ride, and relatively short - just 90 seconds. Disney has installed another version of the same ride system in Shanghai's Toy Story Land, where it is themed as Woody's Roundup. The second new attraction in Toy Story Land, Alien Swirling Saucers, is the same carnival spinner whip ride that Disney fans on the west coast have been riding since 2012 as Mater's Junkyard Jamboree in (the also Pixar-themed) Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. But with smart use of sweeping curves and design elements set to the side of the trains, Slinky Dog Dash still provides even its youngest rides with plenty to see. My only knock would be that the decoration around each seat will make it difficult, if not impossible, for small children to see anything straight ahead of them. With individual lap bars, this coaster offers safety and comfort for both parent and child. It's got just enough excitement to reward little kids who ride without so much intensity that it scares them into swearing off "big kid" rides for another year or more.Īnd, by that standard, Slinky Dog Dash works, perhaps better than any other Disney coaster. With a 38-inch height requirement, Slinky Dog Dash isn't a baby ride, and that's the point. It's a buttery-smooth ride, with gentle launches, dips, and bunny hops - all designed to entice early-elementary-age children to take their first step into the world of thrill rides. Slinky Dog Dash is the largest and, frankly, most ambitious attraction in any of the Toy Story Lands, occupying the majority of the footprint in this Florida installation. That we are shrunk to the size of toys and playing in Andy's backyard is the narrative conceit of all of Disney's Toy Story Lands, of which Walt Disney World's is the fourth worldwide, following Hong Kong Disneyland, Walt Disney Studios Park (Paris), and Shanghai Disneyland, which just opened its land in April. The main new attraction in the land is Slinky Dog Dash, a Mack Rides launching family coaster on which you ride on the back of Slinky Dog as he rolls across of track that Toy Story's Andy built in his backyard. |
